Keeping Close Hold of Your Social Media Content with Bonfyre.

If you are among those people who would love to dip your toes into the waters of social media, but haven’t because of privacy concerns, Mark Sawyier believes he can help.

Sawyier is CEO and Co-Founder of Bonfyre, which was created in May of 2011.  He appeared on KMOX Radio’s Charlie Brennan show on Tuesday, July 16.  Audio of the interview, part of the weekly Innovation Tuesdays segment on KMOX, can be heard here.

Suppose you love posting photos of your dog on Facebook.  Your friends and family may love those pictures, but your business associates who connect with you?  Perhaps not so much.   Perhaps you would love to post photos of your child’s latest school event, but you have concerns about who is seeing those snapshots.

It’s Bonfyre to the rescue.  The event-based app is built around the idea of sharing relevant information with the people who care about that topic.

Here’s how it works: anyone can start a Bonfyre “event.” You can invite others to take part by sending an email or scanning a barcode created just for that event. Then the people who participate in it can write comments and share photos in a conversation that ends up looking like a news feed on Facebook.

St. Louis Rams fans used the Bonfyre app during a handful of Rams games in St. Louis last year, and the app provided a forum for commentary by viewers of last year’s Vice Presidential Debate.  The conversation included about 50 people and 10 influential bloggers, some who had worked with or personally knew the debate moderator, ABC’s Martha Raddatz.
